Uninstaller Archives s - apologise, but

Wix installer is not removing files when uninstalling

I was adding a new feature to my setup when I noticed something no longer worked.

I have an optional feature which is made up of components i.e. an activex installed in the application's folder and various dlls installed in another folder but when uninstalling the activex is the only file remaining in the application's folder and the filters are also remaining in their separate folder.

This used to uninstall both the ActiveX and the dlls just fine and deleted both these folders at the very end of the uninstall.

I've spent hours renaming all the guid for the ActiveX (re-generated a .wxs file with heat) and all the dlls as suggested on a similar article but to no avail!

I just don't get it, my app is removed, my windows service is stopped and removed, etc but the activex and these dlls just won't get deleted!

I've noticed that the problematic files have their actions set to null. First in the feature part, the one that links the activex and dlls is null, yet the other 2 are fine!

Then the files that get removed:

Then the dll files:

As you can see the Actions are all Null??

And finally the activex:

Also Null!!

My activex is installed in c:\program files(x86)\mycompany\client and the dlls are installed in c:\windows\

I also read on some articles that one of the reasons this problem may occur is when the components might have left information in the registry but I've checked numerous specific and random GUID and none can be found.

There was a mention on another article that this could be due to the Ref count for dlls and may be that these were the the SharedDlls registry but again, not the case. I've checked and nothing in the registry.

I've also wipe my VM and rebuilt a fresh one but still no good.

I'm totally out of ideas as to what I can do next. Any other suggestions as to why the actions are null?

Should I be looking for something specific in my log?

Thanks.

UPDATE

I eventually figured out what caused this problem. It's not related to any of the suggested problems i.e. Invalid GUID, Higher version, ref count, being in the windows folder, etc

One of my features is only displayed in the feature treeview if a command line parameter is provided i.e. INCLUDEFILTERS=1 as these are not provided to all our clients by default.

The code is:

By default INCLUDEFILTERS IS 0 unless provided via the command line and set to 1.

Now the problem seem to be related to this. When I'm carrying my test, I pass the INCLUDEFILTERS=1 which installs my activex and filter but I guess when you call the uninstall, it is not aware of that value and uses the default i.e. 0 and therefore does nothing.

Based on the above, I have to assume that when uninstalling it is somehow looking at the feature tree and it checks if it was selected or not.

Can I detect that the INCLUDEFILTERS was set to 1 at install time and reset the internal variable to 1 when uninstalling? Should I be using the 'Installed' within CDATA or is there an another way to achieve this?

I'll be honest, I'm not even sure if knowing this value will make a difference but right now I'm assuming it will.

I'll go ahead and try the 'Installed' condition in CDATA and I will update my answer.

Thanks.

FREE: Revo Uninstaller - Free PCs from junk

revo-uninstaller Revo Uninstaller is a powerful alternative to the Windows Add or Remove Programs control panel applet. It comes with all the necessary tools to clean a system that has been overloaded with tons of useless applications. There is also a portable version, so you can launch it without installing it if you have to clean out a user’s PC of junk. These are the Revo Uninstaller tools, which I will describe below: Uninstaller, Hunter Mode, Junk Files Cleaner, Windows Tools, Auto Run Manager, Browser Cleaner, MS Office Cleaner, Windows Cleaner, Evidence Remover, and Unrecoverable Delete.

Uninstaller ^

Revo-Uninstaller-leftovers What I like about this Uninstaller is that it gives you further information about an application. Via the context menu of an application’s icon you search it in Google, and view the publishers’ about, help, and update information if it is available. The main purpose of Revo Uninstaller is certainly to completely remove an application. The Windows Uninstall applet only starts the uninstall routine that comes with the application. Often it leaves folders, files and registry entries behind. It is one of the main reasons why a Windows installation becomes slower over time. The more junk you have on your system, the slower it will become. Revo Uninstaller analyzes the applications before it starts the application’s built-in uninstaller. After the application has been uninstalled, Revo Uninstaller will scan the computer to find leftover folders, files and registry entries. It will then display them in a hierarchical tree where you can select the ones you want to remove.

Revo-Uninstaller-Hunter-Mode Hunter Mode ^

This is my favorite feature of Revo Uninstaller. Usually when you have to clean someone else’s computer, you will find countless icons on the desktop. In Hunter Mode you can just drag and drop the Revo Uninstaller Icon and the application’s icon to uninstall the application. Thus, you don’t have to search for the corresponding entry in the Uninstaller applet. The context menu also allows you to disable autostarting for this application, kill and delete its process, open the containing folder, and search in Google for information about this application.

Revo-Uninstaller-Autostarting Auto Run Manager ^

This tool also displays autostarting applications. It is no match for Autoruns, but it can be useful if you just want to check whether an application has autostarting components.

Revo-Uninstaller-Junk-Files-Cleaner Junk Files Cleaner ^

The Junk Files Cleaner finds all unnecessary files on the computer. It scans for file extensions such as .tmp, .old or .$$$. The options menu allows you to add your own extensions. You can also exclude specific folders. There are already some pre-defined folders which are better left untouched.

Revo-Uninstaller-Windows-Tools Windows Tools ^

The Windows Tools Panel just displays links to built-in Windows apps that are useful when it comes to cleaning a PC. These tools are System Restore, Disk Fragmenter, Microsoft Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool, etc.

Revo-Uninstaller-Browser-Cleaner Browser Cleaner ^

The Browser Cleaners can remove information like history of visited web sites, the address bar history, cookies, etc. Revo Uninstaller supports Internet Explorer, Firefox, Opera, and Netscape.

Revo-Uinstaller-Office-Cleaner Microsoft Office Cleaner ^

The MS Office Cleaner helps you to get rid of the document history of Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and FrontPage.

Revo-Uninstaller-Windows-Cleaner Windows Cleaner ^

Windows logs uncounted amounts of information. The Windows Cleaner allows you to remove information such as Recent Documents History, Start Menu Run History, the Find File History, “Regedit” Last Opened Key History, and more.

Revo-Uninstaller-Evidence-Remover Evidence Remover ^

After you finished uninstalling all programs and remove all history information, it might make sense to use the Evidence Remover. It scans for files that have been deleted and erases them forever. This will make sure that files can’t be restored via the Recycle Bin or undelete utilities.

Revo-Uninstaller-Unrecoverable-Delete Unrecoverable Delete ^

Unrecoverable Delete is a similar tool. The difference from Evidence Remover is that it lets you choose the files and folders that you want to erase to make them unrecoverable.

Do you know another good uninstaller tool? Please, share your wisdom.

Getting a message that your PC is running out of room can be a stressful event—or, even a genuine emergency if you're in the middle of an important project. The good news is you can probably free up a lot of space on your PC running Windows by following the tips here. But if you keep getting messages about low drive space, you might want to consider other options, including adding additional removable storage.

To get the most out of these tips, do them in order from top to bottom.

  1. Swipe in from the right edge of the screen, tap Settings, and then tap Change PC settings. (If you're using a mouse, point to the lower-right corner of the screen, move the mouse pointer up, click Settings, and then click Change PC settings.)

  2. Select PC and devices, and then select Disk space.

  3. Under Free up space on this PC, note the amount of free space and total size.

Tips:

  • You can view the size of your Windows Store apps and choose whether to uninstall them by tapping or clicking See my app sizes.

  • You can also free up space by tapping or clicking Empty my Recycle Bin if you have files there.

Notes:

  • If you don't see Disk space, you don't have the latest update to Windows  and Windows RT For more info, see Install the Windows  Update (KB ).

  • You can also check the current space on your PC in File Explorer by searching for This PC.

Cleaning out your PC on a regular basis frees up drive space and helps it run better. One of the easiest ways to clean up files you no longer need is by using Disk Cleanup.

  1. Open Disk Cleanup by clicking the Start button . In the search box, type Disk Cleanup, and then, in the list of results, select Disk Cleanup.

  2. If prompted, select the drive that you want to clean up, and then select OK.

  3. In the Disk Cleanup dialog box in the Description section, select Clean up system files.

  4. If prompted, select the drive that you want to clean up, and then select OK.

  5. In the Disk Cleanup dialog box, on the Disk Cleanup tab, select the check boxes for the file types that you want to delete, and then select OK. To remove data from a previous installation of Windows, select the Previous Windows installation(s) check box.

  6. In the message that appears, select Delete files.

  7. Go back to Computer in File Explorer, select the drive you cleaned up, and then select Refresh. If you need to free more space (the drive is still marked red), go to the next tip.

Uninstall desktop apps you don't need any more in Programs and Features.

To uninstall or change a program

  1. Open Programs and Features by clicking the Start button , clicking Control Panel, clicking Programs, and then clicking Programs and Features.

  2. Select a program, and then click Uninstall. Some programs include the option to change or repair the program in addition to uninstalling it, but many simply offer the option to uninstall. To change a program, click Change or Repair. If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

Note: If the program you want to uninstall isn't listed, it might not have been written for this version of Windows. To uninstall the program, check the information that came with the program.

You can also uninstall Store apps you don't want anymore.

  1. Swipe in from the right edge of the screen, tap Settings, and then tap Change PC settings. (If you're using a mouse, point to the lower-right corner of the screen, move the mouse pointer up, click Settings, and then click Change PC settings.)

  2. Select Search and apps, and then select App sizes to see how much space each app is taking on the local drive.

  3. Once you locate an app you want to uninstall, select the app, and then select Uninstall.

Note: This will only uninstall Store apps from your user account.

If you have photos, music, videos, or other files that you want to keep but don't necessarily want on your PC, consider saving them to removable media, such as an external drive, USB drive, DVD, or cloud storage. You'll still be able to view those files as long as your PC is connected to the removable media or cloud storage, but they won't take up space on your PC.

  1. Open This PC by swiping in from the right edge of the screen, tapping Search (or if you're using a mouse, pointing to the upper-right corner of the screen, moving the mouse pointer down, and then clicking Search), entering This PC in the search box, and then tapping or clicking This PC.

  2. In the Search This PC box in the upper-right, enter size:huge.

  3. Select the View menu, select Sort by, and then select Size. The largest files display at the top.

  4. Once you locate a file you want to delete, press and hold or right-click the file and then select Delete.

Warning: Deleting files from the WinSxS folder or deleting the entire WinSxS folder might severely damage your system and make it impossible to restart or update your PC.

The WinSxS folder is located in the Windows folder on your PC (for example, C:\Windows\WinSxS). It stores the Windows Component Store files, which are used to support functions needed to customize and update Windows. You can use the Task Scheduler to reduce the size of this folder.

  1. Swipe in from the right edge of the screen, and then tap Search. (If you're using a mouse, point to the lower-right corner of the screen, move the mouse pointer up, and then click Search.)

  2. Enter Control Panel in the search box, and then select Control Panel.

  3. Select System and Security, and then select Schedule tasks under Administrative Tools.

  4. Select the arrow next to Task Scheduler Library, select Microsoft, select Windows, and then select Servicing.

  5. Select StartComponentCleanup, and then select Run under Selected item.

Files that are available offline take up more space on your PC. OneDrive also needs MB of free space on your PC to sync your files. To free up space, you can make some files or folders online-only.

Notes:

  • If you have Access all files offline turned on, you need to first turn off this setting before you can make files online-only.

  • If you have pending uploads to OneDrive, you need to wait until they are completed before making files online-only.

  1. On the Start screen, select OneDrive to open the OneDrive app.

  2. Browse to the file or folder you want to make online-only.

  3. Swipe down or right-click the file or folder to select it.

  4. Select Make online-only. To make your entire OneDrive online-only, swipe in from the right edge of the screen (or, if you're using a mouse, point to the lower-right corner of the screen, and move the mouse pointer up), select Settings, select Options, and then select Make all files online-only.

  1. Open File Explorer by swiping in from the right edge of the screen, tapping Search (or if you're using a mouse, pointing to the upper-right corner of the screen, moving the mouse pointer down, and then clicking Search), entering File Explorer in the search box, and then tapping or clicking File Explorer.

  2. Browse to the file or folder you want to make online-only.

  3. Press and hold or right-click the file or folder, and then choose Make available online-only. To make your entire OneDrive online-only, press and hold or right-click OneDrive, and then choose Make available online-only.

The removable drive will need to be formatted with the NTFS file system.

To check space availability

Before you move your OneDrive files, you should make sure the removable drive has enough space to store your files. Follow these steps:

  2. Press and hold or right-click OneDrive.

  3. Select Properties, and then look at the amount next to Size on disk.

  4. In File Explorer, select This PC, and then see how much space is free on the removable drive.

To move your OneDrive files

First, you'll need to create a folder on the removable drive for your OneDrive files. After you create the folder, follow these steps to move your files:

Warning: Moving your OneDrive files will cancel any pending uploads.

  1. In File Explorer, press and hold or right-click OneDrive.

  2. Select Properties, and then select the Location tab.

  3. Select Move.

  4. Browse to the removable drive, and then select Select Folder.

  5. In the OneDrive Properties dialog box, select OK.

  6. In the Move Folder dialog box, select Yes. Your OneDrive files have been moved to the new drive. You can now delete the old OneDrive location.

A longer-term strategy for expanding your PC's storage capacity is to add removable storage, including SD cards, USB flash drives, DVDs or CDs, or using cloud storage or network drives. Removable storage options:

  • Secure Digital (SD) cards. There are few different types of cards, including SD (x24 mm), miniSD (x20 mm), and microSD (x11 mm). It's important to check with your PC manufacturer to understand which types of SD cards options are available on your PC.

Tip: If you're using Surface, you can add up to 64 GB of storage with a microSD card. On Surface RT, the microSD card reader is located under the kickstand on the right side. On Surface Pro, the card reader is located on the right edge, above the power connection.

  • USB and external drives. Most PCs include one or more USB ports that you can plug a USB flash or external drives into. Some newer PCs include a USB port, which includes faster transfer speeds of up to 10 times USB While you can use a USB flash drive in a USB port (at USB transfer speeds), you can't use a USB flash drive with a USB port. Check with your PC manufacturer to understand which USB ports your PC supports.

  • DVDs and CDs. If your PC has a CD, DVD, or Blu-ray Disc drive that can read and write to a blank disc, you can use the drive to store data, much like an SD or USB flash drive. Here's how: When you insert a blank disc into the PC, choose Like a USB flash drive from the list of options.

  • Cloud storage using OneDrive. Windows comes with the OneDrive app, which helps you get to your free OneDrive storage in the cloud, sometimes referred to as online storage. You can save files to OneDrive and work with them in several different ways: on the website (mlbjerseyschina.us), with the app for Windows  and Windows RT , with the desktop apps for a PC or Mac, and with apps for your mobile devices.

  • To see how much storage is available, and add more storage, swipe in from the right edge of the screen (or, if you're using a mouse, point to the lower-right corner of the screen), select Settings, select Change PC settings, and then select OneDrive. You can also go to Manage storage on the OneDrive website.

Display Driver Uninstaller Download version

Download Display Driver Uninstaller DDU  - Display Driver Uninstaller is a driver removal utility that can help you completely uninstall AMD/NVIDIA graphics card drivers and packages from your system, without leaving leftovers behind (including registry keys, folders and files, driver store).

The AMD/NVIDIA video drivers can normally be uninstalled from the Windows Control panel, this driver uninstaller program was designed to be used in cases where the standard driver uninstall fails, or anyway when you need to thoroughly delete NVIDIA and ATI video card drivers. The current effect after you use this driver removal tool will be similar as if its the first time you install a new driver just like a fresh, clean install of Windows. As with any tool of this kind, we recommend creating a new system restore point before using it, so that you can revert your system at any time if you run into problems.

If you have a problem installing an older driver or newer one, give it a try as there are some reports that it fix those problems. DDU is an application that is programmed by Ghislain Harvey aka Wagnard in our forums, mlbjerseyschina.us is the official download partner for this handy application.

We have an extensive AMD support thread over here and an NVIDIA over here.

Recommended usage

  • The tool can be used in Normal mode but for absolute stability when using DDU, Safemode is always the best.
  • Make a backup or a system restore (but it should normally be pretty safe).
  • It is best to exclude the DDU folder completely from any security software to avoid issues.

Keep note that NVIDIA/AMD did not have anything to do with this, I do not work at or for NVIDIA/AMD and they should not be held responsible for anything that may go wrong with this application.

Requirement:

  • Windows Vista SP2 up to Windows 11
  • NVIDIA, AMD, Intel GPUs
  • Also support basic Realtek audio driver cleanup.
  • Microsoft .NET Framework or higher

Recommended usage

  • You MUST disconnect your internet or completely block Windows Update when running DDU until you have re-installed your new drivers.
  • DDU should be used when having a problem uninstalling/installing a driver or when switching GPU brand.
  • DDU should not be used every time you install a new driver unless you know what you are doing.
  • DDU will not work on network drive. Please install in a local drive (C:, D: or else).
  • The tool can be used in Normal mode but for absolute stability when using DDU, Safemode is always the best.
  • If you are using DDU in normal mode, Clean, reboot, clean again, reboot.
  • Make a backup or a system restore (but it should normally be pretty safe).
  • It is best to exclude the DDU folder completely from any security software to avoid issues.

The good news is you can probably free up a lot of space on your PC running Windows by following the tips here. But if you keep getting messages about low drive space, you might want to consider other options, including adding additional removable storage.

To get the most out of these tips, do Uninstaller Archives s in order from top to bottom.

  1. Swipe in from the right edge of the screen, tap Settings, and then tap Change PC settings. (If you're using a mouse, point to the lower-right corner of the screen, move the mouse pointer up, click Settings, and then click Change PC settings.)

  2. Select Uninstaller Archives s and devices, and then select Disk space.

  1. Open Disk Cleanup by clicking the Start buttonUninstaller Archives s. In the search box, Uninstaller Archives s, type Disk Cleanup, and then, in the list of results, select Disk Cleanup.

  7. Go back to Computer in File Explorer, select the drive you cleaned up, and then select Refresh. If you need to free more space (the drive is Uninstaller Archives s marked red), go to the next tip.

Uninstall desktop apps you don't need any more in Programs and Features.

To uninstall or change a program

A longer-term strategy for expanding your PC's storage capacity is to add removable storage, including SD cards, USB flash drives, DVDs or CDs, or using cloud storage or network drives. Removable storage options:

  • Secure Digital (SD) cards. There are few different types of cards, including SD (x24 mm), Uninstaller Archives s, miniSD (x20 mm), Uninstaller Archives s, and microSD (x11 mm).

You can save files to OneDrive and work with them in several different ways: on the website (mlbjerseyschina.us), with the app for Windows  and Windows RTUninstaller Archives s, with the desktop apps for a PC or Mac, and with apps for your mobile devices.

  • To see how much storage is available, and add more storage, swipe in from the right edge of the screen (or, if Uninstaller Archives s using a mouse, point to the lower-right corner of the screen), select Settings, select Change PC settings, and then select OneDrive. You can also go to Manage storage on the OneDrive website.

I just don't get it, my app is removed, my windows service is stopped and removed, Uninstaller Archives s but the activex and these dlls just won't get deleted!

I've noticed that the problematic Uninstaller Archives s have their actions set to null.

Any other suggestions as to Uninstaller Archives s the actions are null?

Should I be looking for something specific in my log?

Thanks.

UPDATE

I eventually figured out what caused this problem. It's not related to any of the suggested problems i.e. Invalid GUID, Higher version, ref count, being in the windows folder, Uninstaller Archives s, etc

When I'm carrying my test, I pass the INCLUDEFILTERS=1 which installs my activex and filter but I guess when you call the uninstall, it is not aware of that value and uses the Uninstaller Archives s i.e.

I'll be honest, I'm not even sure if knowing this value Uninstaller Archives s make a difference but right now I'm assuming it will.

I'll go ahead and try the 'Installed' condition in CDATA and I will update my answer.

Thanks.
